Snow News is good news! Welcome back to another attempt at information, humor, and fun from the thing that we collectively know as last kid picked. The fall season has kept us on our toes, and we have hopefully not ruined our ballerina status! The fleet footed antics from the strangest collection of musicians that I have ever been so lucky to play with have had another amazing year. We would like to thank all of you for your interest and loyalty in coming out to play with us. All the cash that we sent to your folks so you would be nice to us has really paid off. Hey, nobody said this stuff was easy. At any rate, we send out our serious thanks to all of you for hanging with us and making our job the best job in the world.
We are currently celebrating the close of the fifth year as lkp, and will officially call it the start of number 6 on January 17th. Those of you who remember our original gig on Halloween will remember (or not) that we didn't start out with the name last kid picked. That was a title that rose from humble beginnings in my messed up head to give us a name that would stick and be remembered by all you crazy people. Hopefully it worked, and hopefully everyone else has gotten as much of a kick out of it as we have. What's in a name? I'd like to think a fair amount of positive attitude, and some fun for all to enjoy. If we have accomplished anything, I hope it is that we are perceived as happy liuttle campers that love what they do. Anyway, enough about names and history, let's talk about the future! 2002, here we come!
We have added some new rooms to our repertoire in the past couple of months, so lets get youz guys up to date on that. The newest name in the book is Farr's Roadhouse in Waterbury, VT. This used to Waterbury and have such a warm welcome. Many familiar faces along with some new friends - we hope, came out and cristened the bar on its opening night with the kid. A great staff, and a great attitude - hopefully for many hyears into the future. Let's just say they play well with others.
Whippersnappers in Londonderry gets the nod for another new place for us in southers NH that is a great time. We are currently not there much, but be on the lookout for more dates to pop up in the spring. Also, those in the Ludlow area should keep their ears peeled; we may be sneaking in for a few dates on your turf.
For those of you that have joined us in the past, Our Christmas party was missed this year. Some family business required me to be out of town on the scheduled December 19th date. Due to the conflict, we have moved the Christmas party to after Christmas so that we can continue the tradition. This year's party will be on Wednesday, January 9th and will still be at Shorty's Mexican Roadhouse in West Lebanon, NH. Festivities from about 7 pm on, we will provide appetizers and some giveaways of lkp merchandise, including the coveted last kid picked road bag. As far as beverages are concerned, you're on your own - I've seen you drink and I won't bankrupt the band! Please RSVP to the hotline, 603-443-3497 if you plan to attend. We just need a reasonable head count to see how much of the restaurant we need to take over. Should have done it on a Monday, the magician is amazing! Anyway, directions to Shorty's are as follows: NH Interstate 89 exit 20, West Lebanon. Southbound takes a left off the ramp, Northbound takes a right. The next light after the interchange is Benning Street. Take a right on Benning Street after the Sunoco station, and you will be staring at a Shaw's Supermarket out of your left eye; Shorty's out of your right. Close your left eye and aim for Shorty's. Park your car and GET IN THERE! See you then!
Our final gigs of 2001 will be our best yet! Don't miss our on our last headline of 2001 at the Black Brimmer on Saturday, January 29. The Brimmer never fails to deliver high energy, and great atmosphere. Look for us much more often in 2002 on the Brimmer stage.
New Years Eve is flying high at the Wobbly Barn at Killington, VT. We did the opening act thing last year and we will be doing a repeat this year on the Wobbly stage. Our friends, The Wallbangers will be ringing in the New Year, and we will be doing an apres ski pair of sets, and an opening set in the 9-11 pm range. Admission is $30 per person,, plus dinner. Dinner is required, and starts at 4 pm. This is a crazy place to be, they do about 900+ dinners that night, so the place is mobbed! Tons of fun and a great way to ring in the New Year. Any questions? Call the hotline, and we will pass on the needed info. By the way, the apres sets are FREE admission, so come up for that and then go to your NYE party if you already made other plans!
Once again, see you out on the road, tell all your friends and come play with us. last kid picked is here to get you off your butt and make you stick to your New Year's resolutions. Hopefully they aren't too difficult to keep!
